Crochet Afghans with Matching Pillow Patterns

Each pattern in this collection highlights bold motifs inspired by traditional Native American design elements. The instructions are easy-to-follow and suitable for newer crocheters. The Indian Pathway set features striking paths and diamonds, the Navajo Trails set offers a larger blanket with classic shapes, and the Cherokee set uses layered geometry for a dramatic effect. The matching pillows help complete the look and make each set ideal for gifting or decorating.
These blankets and pillows are crocheted with an easy-to-learn method where you work only one color at a time, using a dropped double crochet stitch technique. Instead of trying to juggle more than one color of yarn at a time for each row you work, this technique allows you to crochet your stitches into the remaining front loop of a stitch 2 rows prior and add a different color simply! This means you only work with a single color of yarn for each row you are working!
Native American Designs
This technique works really well for geometric designs and you can see other examples of Carol’s available patterns for Native American designs, hearts, diamonds, teddy bears, choo-choo trains, kitty cats and castles on her website.
Navajo Style Crochet Patterns
She also has a great selection of geometric and Navajo Style crochet patterns for potholders, dishcloths, table runners, place-mats, afghans, pillows, hats and totes. Other crochet pattern designs available on her site include doll clothes, tops, vests, baby clothes, baby cocoons, ponchos and shawls.
U.S. Crochet Terms
The pattern is written out in full, in U.S. crochet terminology.
Crochet Chart is Included
Handy charts are included for those who prefer working from diagrams.
Only simple stitches are used to make these Afghans and Pillows, so I feel a determined beginner would be able to make this project. You will need to understand where to find the front loops and back loops of your stitches, single crochet, double crochet and slip stitches.
No Ends to Weave in!
The project is worked on one side of the fabric only, which means you do not turn your work. But, don’t panic! There are no ends to sew in! The side edges are tied to create small tassels and then trimmed to the same length. The bottom and top edges of the Afghan do not have fringe or tassels.
