Granny Mini Shawl with Flower Edging
Supplies
- Yarn: Vinnis Colours Nikkim. (DK) Light Weight Yarn [3]. 50 g (1.75 oz); 119 m (130 yds). 100% Cotton Yarn. Machine wash (30C) and dry flat.
- Color: Pale Khaki (570)
- Crochet Hook: 4 mm (G)
- Finished project used: Approximately 100 g of DK Yarn (Light Weight Yarn) for the Mini Shawl (Scarflet) and 50 g of DK Yarn (Light Weight Yarn) for the flower border.
- Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker.
Difficulty Level
- Easy (Basic crochet stitches, simple shaping and finishing)
Finished Size
- Approximate size of sample: 41.5 inches (105 cm) wide x 19.5 inches (50 cm) high (measured from the top center straight down to the point).
- If you prefer, you can make your granny stitch shawl larger by simply continuing the granny stitch repeat additional times.
Gauge
- Approximately [(3 dc, ch 1) 4 times and 2 dc] in 4 inches and 8 rows in 5 inches, before the border is added.
- After you add the border, the height will increase by approximately 1.25 inches.
Gauge is not essential for this project. You can use any yarn and hook you like to make this granny stitch shawl. Adjust the size easily by working more or fewer rows.

How to Make Your Granny Shawl with Flower Border
This pattern is worked from the top down, increasing evenly to create a triangular shawl shape. The simple granny stitch repeat makes it easy to adjust the length and width. Once the shawl reaches your desired size, add the crochet flower border for a soft, delicate finish.
Using your 4 mm (H) crochet hook, or size required for gauge:
R1: Ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and 1 ch), work 2 dc in the fourth ch from the hook. Ch 2, work 3 dc in the same ch. Turn. [6 dc, 1 ch2sp]
R2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) and 2 dc in the same st, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the ch2sp, ch 1, 3 dc in the next ch2sp, ch 1, 3 dc in the last st. Turn. [12 dc, 2 ch1sp, 1 ch2sp]
R3: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) and 2 dc in the same st, ch 1. (3 dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1). (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the ch2sp, ch 1. (3 dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1). 3 dc in the last st. Turn. [18 dc, 4 ch1sp, 1 ch2sp]
R4: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) and 2 dc in the same st, ch 1, (3 dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1) across to the corner ch2sp. (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the ch2sp, ch 1. (3 dc in the next ch1sp, ch 1) across to the last st. 3 dc in the last st. Turn. [24 dc, 6 ch1sp, 1 ch2sp]
R5-R66: Rep R4
Do not finish off. Instead, proceed to flower edging instructions below.
Once your shawl is complete, it’s time to add the finishing touches.
Flower Border Instructions
- If you are using a different color for the edging, finish off your yarn and weave in the ends.
- Join your new color yarn with a sl st in the first st of R66 (or the last row you crocheted).
- Otherwise, turn and proceed to the instructions below (if you are not changing your yarn color).
First Flower
R1: Ch 1, 1 sc in each of the next 3 dc, 1 sc in the next ch1sp, 1 sc in each of the next 3 dc, ch 7 and sl st into the last sc made to create a loop. Make 5 Petals (see below).
Petals: Ch 3, 2 tr2tog, ch 3, sl st into the ch7loop.
Second Flower to Center Point
*1 sc in the next ch1sp, 1 sc in each of the next 3 dc, 1 sc in the next ch1sp, 1 sc in each of the next 3 dc, ch 7 and sl st into the last sc made to create a loop. Ch 3, remove hook from working yarn, insert it through the top of the last tr2tog made (in the fifth petal), place working yarn back on hook and pull through that last tr2tog. Make 2 tr2tog, ch 3 and sl st into the ch7loop. Make 4 Petals.** Work from * to ** across to the center point.
Do not work into the corner ch2sp.
1 sc in each of the next 3 dc, 1 sc in the next ch1sp, 1 sc in each of the next 3 dc, ch 7 and sl st into the last sc made to create a loop. Make 5 Petals (see below).
