Hi Crochet Friends! Earlier this year I was invited to participate in a crochet along with the Joy Creators at Red Heart Yarn.

Make a Blanket with the Joy Creators!

Wedding Blanket CAL 2019

Each Joy Creator designed a single afghan square measuring 12 inches by 12 inches and then we mailed our finished square to be assembled into one blanket.

The other Designers who have participated are Snappy Tots, Fiber Flux, Cre8tion Crochet, Jessie at Home, Beatrice Ryan Designs, Heart Hook Home, My Hobby is Crochet, Underground Crafter, Moogly, The Purple Poncho, Pattern Paradise, YARNutopia, Naztazia, Bobwilson123, Whistle and Ivy, ELK Studio, American Crochet, Kirsten Holloway Designs, GoodKnit Kisses and Marly Bird.

The finished blanket measures 5 feet by 5 feet in size. The colors we used to make our squares were chosen to compliment the bride and grooms home decor. You can choose whichever yarn colors you want to make your blanket. The finished blanket was a gift to one of our Red Heart Team Leaders who recently got married. Thus, this CAL is called the Wedding Blanket CAL. You can make it for any occasion, or just to try out some brand-new afghan square designs from a great group of Crochet Designers!

From now until July 26th, every Monday and Friday a new pattern will be released. The design I created, Wedding Blessings Square, will be released on June 21st.

Here’s a lovely close-up of the finished blanket so you can see all the unique afghan square designs you will get to crochet.

It is always great to see the finished project before you begin so you can choose your yarn colors and yarn in advance! The yarn we chose to use was Marly Bird’s Chic Sheep Yarn (which I love) but if you are sensitive to wool products you can easily substitute for another light, to medium weight yarn. Red Heart Soft would be a lovely substitute. We each used a 5.5 mm (I) hook.

As long as you use the same type of yarn for every square you crochet, your squares should all finish up at the same size. You can tweak the border slightly by omitting, or adding extra rounds to get a finished blanket of similar size, or if you don’t need it to be exactly 5 feet by 5 feet in size, you can just follow the patterns as they are each released.

I hope you each want to join us to make this lovely blanket. If you pop by Marly’s blog she has a dated list of each of the Designers who participated. When their free pattern post goes live, she will update the link beside their publish date so you can easily find each pattern.

I hope you join us!
