Notes:
- I prefer to start my poppies with a double magic ring but I have demonstrated (video coming soon) how to make these using a chain 3 and sl st to form a ring to start so beginners can also make this project.

The Easiest 5 Minute Poppy Pattern Instructions
This poppy is crocheted in a single round. There are 2 ways you can start this project – either with a double magic ring OR a chain 3 and slip stitch to form a ring.
Using your 5 mm [H] hook (or size required for gauge) and leaving an 8-10 inch yarn tail:
Red Flower
R1: With Red: Ch 3 and sl st to the third ch from the hook to form a ring. *(Ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 1 sl st) into the ring.** Rep from * to ** 4 times. [4 petals – 12 dc, 8 ch2sp, 4 sl st]
Finish off and weave in both of the red yarn ends.
Black Yarn Center
If you would like to use a yarn center, please follow these instructions:
R1: With Black: Ch 2 and work 4 sc in the second ch from the hook. Sl st to the first st to join.
Finish off and weave in one of the black yarn ends. Use the second black yarn end to attach the center to the poppy. Finish off and weave your end in securely.

Options for the Center
You can finish the poppy center in a few different ways:
- Use a black button: Sew it securely in place with sewing thread.
- Use a round piece of felt:
- Cut a small black felt circle.
- Attach it with fabric glue, or hand-sew it in place.
Finishing Instructions
You can easily turn your poppy into a wearable brooch:
- Add a safety pin back:
- Sew the bar of the safety pin (the side that doesn’t open) to the wrong side of the poppy.
- For a neater finish, glue or sew a small piece of fabric or felt over the pin.
- Use a brooch back:
- Hand-sew the brooch back securely to the back of the poppy.
- Use black thread instead of yarn to avoid bulk that might keep the clasp from closing properly.
- If you plan to sell your poppies at craft fairs, add a small fabric or felt patch over the pin back and glue it in place for a polished look.
